VARIABLES
There are 2 types of variables in your investigation. You must identify them in your project.
The INDEPENDENT variable is the part of your experiment that you are changing. It is the "test" variable.
The DEPENDENT variable will change on its own as a result of you manipulating the independent variable.
Your project must also have CONSTANTS and a CONTROL. The constant is the part of the investigation that does not change throughout the experiment. The control is a part of the experiment that you do not introduce the independent variable to so that you can compare. It is supposed to be "normal conditions".
Here are examples:
INDEPENDENT variable -you change the height of a ramp
DEPENDENT variable - the distance that the car rolls
CONSTANT- use the same car, the same ramp, the same measuring tape, on the same floor
CONTROL- this scenario does not have a control
INDEPENDENT variable - you change the type of music you play for a plant- latin, heavy metal, classical, top 40
DEPENDENT variable - the growth of the plant
CONSTANT- give the plants the SAME amount of water, keep them in the same place (except when playing music), they both get the same amount of light, they are the same size to begin with.
CONTROL- have one plant that is treated exactly the same except it is not exposed to ANY type of music.
